The Valle Gran Rey is a municipality in La Gomera located on the edge of one of the biggest and most beautiful ravines on this island.
In this municipality you might observe the famous hermitages of San Nicolás de Tolentino (Aure) and the Los Santos Reyes, both from the XVI century. The last one has the “La Adoración de Los Santos Reyes” painting that dates back to the XVII century, the Altarpiece Del Cuadro from the XVIII century (this painting is inside an altarpiece with dossal shape).
On the end of the ravine there’s a small port, a beach known as El Inglés Beach and the El Conde Pond, one of the best black sandy beaches on the island of La Gomera.
Due to the sheer terrain shape, on this region a new language was created “El Silbo Gomero”. This language, unique in the world, is an ancient communication form characterized by whistles which allowed inhabitants to communicate with each other up to 4 kms apart.
This is one of the most important touristic sites on the island.
