La Graciosa Island

 

La Graciosa Island is located on the northwest region above Lanzarote, from which it depends administratively. From Lanzarote till La Graciosa you can go by ferry which only takes about 20 minutes, it’s very cheap and easy to catch.

In the La Graciosa Island you might find wide beaches perfect for relaxing and spending some quality time in front it’s crystal clear waters. The most famous beaches are on the south side of the island as, for example, Los Franceses and La Cocina beaches.

La Graciosa belongs to the Chinijo archipelago, which also belong other small islands like Roque del Este and Oeste, Montaña Clara and Alegranza. Even though it’s officially an island, as 630 people live there, it’s mostly known as an islet.

This island only has two known populations: Caleta de sebo, a very traditional village and also Pedro Barba, a touristic urbanization in which you might enjoy your holidays.

The climate in La Graciosa is smooth and pleasant throughout the year. In summertime the temperatures exceed 25 celsius degrees (77º F) and during winter you won’t feel less than 16 ºC (60,8 º F). There might be some rain during winter but the weather will stay warm and pleasant. In La Graciosa you might go to the beach either during winter or summer and even swim in the Atlantic Ocean.

To get to La Graciosa island you should cross the sea from Ózorla, a fishermen’s population on the north of Lanzarote.

Boat Schedules to get to La Graciosa:

From La Graciosa to Lanzarote: 7:00, 8:00, 11:00, 12:30 (from 15th of July till 15th of September), 16:00 y 17:30 (only from july till october).
From Lanzarote to La Graciosa: 8:00, 10:00, 12:00, 13:30 (from 15th of July till 15th of September), 17:00 y 18:30 (only from july till october).

To get to Ózorla’s Port you may use public transportation as there are many buses departing from Arrecife bus station to Ózorla, at least two times a day. Although you have other options, renting a car might be more comfortable.

Bus Schedule to get to Ózorla:

Monday to Friday:
Arrecife - Ózorla: 7:40, 10:30, 12:00, 15:30 y 17:00.
Ózorla - Arrecife: 8:30, 11:30, 13:10, 16:30 y 18:10.

Saturday, Sunday and Holidays:
Arrecife - Ózorla: 7:40, 15:30 y 17:00.
Ózorla - Arrecife: 8:30, 16:30 y 18:10.

The La Graciosa island is one of the fewest places on Europe where there are no paved roads. It’s the most quiet and unknown islands of the Canary Islands. It’s a flat island where you might spot four different volcanic complexes.

One of the best times to visit this island is on the 16th of July which is when they celebrate de La Virgen del Carmen festivity. You might also visit this island on Carnival, on the end of february or beginning of march.
