The Caldera de Taburiente, classified as National Park in 1954 by its high scientific value and wild landscapes, attracts many visitors every year, that come to La Palma Island to enjoy one of the best national parks in Spain.
This park has a wide cauldron-shaped valley, originated by natural erosion, surrounded by high peaks that might reach 2.000 meters high, with a natural drain, the Las Angustias Ravine.
When entering this park you might see the magnificent pine trees. While descending to its interior you’ll find a refreshing river where you might loosen up your muscles and enjoy the colourful, refreshing waterfalls.
The difference from other areas from this island is that here you might find a very rainy climate during the winter and dry during the summer.
Its surface is mostly covered by canary islands’ pine, located on the sides of the ravines, while on the peaks you’ll mostly see willow trees (the most extensive community of this tree).
Regarding its fauna we highlight the presence of choughs, on this archipelago you’ll only see them in La Palma, crows, wild doves, buzzard, owl and many kestrels.
From the mammals only four species bats are commonly seen, maroon cats and some wild dogs.
Regarding reptiles, in the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, you might observe a wide number of smut lizards and Canary Islands wall gecko.
