Caldera de Jieque

Discover the Caldera de Jieque Cauldron in Tijarafe, La Palma.

Jieque Cauldron

The Caldera de Jieque Cauldron is located on the top of the El Jurado Ravine, in the municipality of Tijarafe on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands.

This location is one of the most beautiful locations in La Palma. This a very attractive spot for tourists and locals.

It’s curious to notice that the Jieque Cauldron seems like a smaller reproduction of the popular Taburiente Cauldron that also has impressive slopes that seem to have been cut by a knife.

This impressive cauldron has nearly one and half kilometers of diameter and from the top you might see the Taburiente Cauldron on the horizon.

The Jieque Cauldron has many unique geological formations similar to the ones found in Taburiente Cauldron.

It’s curious to know that this is a very important biological area that, due to its morphology and unique microclimate, counts with many native species and small forests of white plants.

This cauldron also has many natural fountains as the Los Dornajitos Fountain. The cauldron also has an important gallery opened in the end of the XIX century by locals looking for the precious element.

Nowadays this is an abandoned gallery. The Jieque Cauldron is a privileged site for goats shepherding due to the richness of its fields.
