Santa Úrsula Mártir Parish

Discover the Santa Úrsula Mártir Parish in the municipality of Santa Úrsula, Tenerife.

The Santa Úrsula Mártir is located in Santa Úrsula, on the north of Tenerife, on the Canary Islands.

The Santa Úrsula Mártir Parish building is considered Artistic Historic Heritage by the Canary Government from 1988, as it’s the oldest religious building in this municipality, dating back to early XVII century.

The actual building is product of numerous extensions which succeeded when the space wasn’t enough to hold all the congregation.

For many years, and after the concession to the La Victoria Parish, in 1602, the hermitage depended from the Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de La Orotava Parish.

Only in 1612 this hermitage was converted into a Parish where all the ceremonial and traditional acts were held, celebrating at this time the final independence of this municipality.
The building has only one nave, latin cross shaped, with a bigger chapel and two smaller lateral ones. Its facade is made of stone and it has a modern shape tower rebuilt in 1915.

In its interior there are many images among which we point out the Virgen de la Concepción, and one carved image in ivory of San Sebastián with iberoamerican origin. There’s also an important canvas of the Ánimas del Purgatorio from Domingo Lorenzo among many other interesting religious elements.

Next to the Santa Úrsula Mártir Parish you’ll find the Parish House, a typical regional construction from the 60’s.

How to get here:

To get to the viewpoint is advisable, if you don’t have a vehicle, to rent a car in Tenerife, and head to the Santa Úrsula municipality, which can be done through the TF-5 highway. Once you’re inside the municipality you should go to the town hall as the parish is just in front of it, before reaching La Quinta.
