La Concepción Church

The Iglesia de la Concepcion Church is located on a main square of the historic complex of Realejo Bajo one of the most notable boroughs in the municipality of Los Realejos, in the north of Tenerife.

The La Concepción Church is the second most important on this municipality. It was built between 1697 and 1701 after the demolition of the old hermitage. In the past it accommodated fine coffered ceilings moorish styles, neoclassical altarpieces, canvas from the canary artist Hernández de Quintana, etc. All of these pieces were lost during the 1978 fire.

Nowadays it has two images of Nuestra Señora del Rosario and La Dolorosa that were rescued from the same fire. The first dates from the XVII century while the second one was made by Rodríguez de la Oliva on the XVII century. It also has some important goldsmith pieces among which a franciscan silver and gold custodia from the XVIII century and a processional cross from 1563.

On the left side you might see some XVI century staircases that lead to the gardens where you might find some typical dragon trees.

The church has a southern tower that used to belong to the original facade but was later translated. The church was reopened to public in 1993.
