The Parque Rural de Anaga (Anaga Rural Park) is a protected site located on the northwest of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Most of this protected land belongs to the municipality of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Anaga Rural Park is one of the oldest areas of Tenerife. It consists in an abrupt range with fascinating summits that descend to impressive valleys stretching to the ocean tthrough fantastic beaches only accessible by foot or by boat.
This Natural Protected Site has an extension of approximately 14.420 hectares including heights that reach up to the 1024 meters (in Pico Cruz de Taborno). This site include different natural integrated reserves such as Ijuana, Los Roques de Anaga and El Pijaral.
This park has an endearing natural area filled with impressive contrasts where you might find an abundant flora and fauna diversity, in part, due to its isolation. This park hosts one of the most important laurel community in the whole world. All this characteristics allowed experts to recognize this area as an original tertiary forest only available here and in the Azores.
Locals have enjoyed many of the resources offered by this land. It’s easy to spot small gardens totally adapted to the terrain irregularities. Finally you might also find many stone vats, haystacks and cave houses.
