Santa Lucía de Tirajana is a municipality on the Southeast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands.

Santa Lucía de Tirajana is the capital of the same name’s municipality. This location is placed 680 meters above the sea level, only 50 kilometers south of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the island’s capital.

The municipality has more or less 60 square meters and forms a kind of wedge. It limited on the north by Agüimes municipality, on the south by San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Northwest by Tejeda.

Regarding its flora and nature, this location has predominantly bushes and palms, even though on the high surfaces you might find some canary Pines and other species. On the ravine you might also find some plants that reach and access to underground water as, for example, the balos. While on areas closer to the sea you might see some plants adapted to the salt as the tárales. In this areas you can identify tarahales’ woods with high density of birds communities as well as reptiles and rodents.

On the shore there’s kelp that shelter and feed numerous species as, for example the wrasses’ populations.

Santa Lucía de Tirajana also has many important natural protected sites as the Tirajana Cauldron or the Tiajana Ravine.

One of the most important visiting locations in this municipality is the Pozo Izquierdo Beach. A beach with lots of activities to do.

This municipality also has many other interesting points apart from beaches and natural parks. The most relevant ones are : the Santa Lucía Church, the San Nicolás de Bari Hermitage, the Fortress El Hao Castle Museum, the Ansite Fortress, the Presa de la Sorrueda, the viewpoints of Guriete, Ingenio, La Sorrueda and Las Tedersas, the Salt Works of Tenefé, the Zafra Museum and the Craftwork Centre.

In this location many lively festivities are organized as a fusion of between religious’ festivities and the popular feeling. The most famous are: The La Patrona de Santa Lucía Festivity, on the 13th December, Labour’s Day, the festivity with more participants, and the San Rafaél Festivity, on the 24th October in Vecindario.

If you enjoy sports, in Santa Lucía you’ll find good sports’ infraestructures to practice your favourite sport as this city was a municipal pavillion, a municipal stadium, a racetrack, swimming pools and an international Windsurf Centre.

This municipality also has very typical and diverse gastronomy. We highly recommend your visit to the urban centre of Santa Lucia or Vecindario to try some of their best dishes, such as wrinkled potatoes with sauce, soft cheese, olive oils, canary potage, sausage broiler and fresh steer.

To Get to Santa Lucia you might rent a car and take to following roads:
Las Palmas – Vecindario GC-1
Las Palomas – Vecindario GC-1
Vecindario – Santa Lucía de Tirajana GC-65

You might also take the following lines on the global bus: 01 (every 20 minutes), from Las Palmas to Mogán but stops in vecindario; 44 (every 30 minutes), from Las Palmas to Vecindario; and the 34 that goes from Doctoral – San Bartolomé – Santa Lucía.
