Acuario Poema del Mar opened last January, and from that moment it has become one of the main attractions for tourists visiting this island, as well as for the locals who are curious about what wonders await for them inside that magnificent structure.

This fantastic aquarium is divided into three main areas: “La Jungla” in the first place, followed by “Arrecife”, and finally “Deep Sea”. Visit all of them by taking a pleasant three-hour walk in which you will for sure enjoy the 35 marine and river ecosystems from all around the world in just one single spot in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Acuario Poema del Mar.

Fall in love with the 350 different sea species that you’ll find in its 12.500 square metres, divided according to the various marine ecosystems: deep sea, surface waters and freshwater, you won’t be left indifferent. Acuario Poema del Mar has a narrow glass tube through which, carefully squatting, you will see hundreds of fish swimming around you. However, Poema del Mar does not only feature marine species, but also has parrots flying around the area of “La Jungla” and colourful chameleons trying to hide among all this wildlife.

The aquarium also features a restaurant where you will be able to enjoy a delicious meal while surrounded by the marine atmosphere, consisting of colourful fish swimming near you. Near Acuario Poema del Mar you will find a long avenue to take a walk while you enjoy the green areas surrounding the aquarium and the blue waters of Muelle Sanapú, where a great number of ships can be found. If you feel like it, you can also visit Centro Comercial El Muelle near the aquarium.

You may be interested to know that from the very first moment Acuario Poema del Mar presented this wonderful project, it was made clear that its goal was to encourage economic activity in the area of the pier, which welcomes thousands of cruise passengers every week, as well as becoming one of the most advanced oceanographic research institutions in the planet. And, at the same time, it also aimed to protect endangered marine species while offering you an intense look at the deep sea. Its purpose is no other than the investigation, education and conservation of the marine species, as well as the collaboration with universities, research centres and environmental institutions.

Besides, Poema del Mar invests in development and conservation while maintaining the sustainable line that characterizes Loro Parque’s projects. For this purpose, they encouraged the use of renewable energies and a great number of photovoltaic panels were installed, thus contributing to environmental care.
