The La Luz Castle is located on the Juan Rejón Street in a district known as La Isleta, very close to Las Canteras in the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, on the north of Gran Canaria.
This important castle defended the natural port from constant english and dutch pirates for many centuries.
Nowadays it’s considered National Historic Monument. It was originally built on 1494 and it was the first known fortress on the city of Las Palmas.
This castle’s surrounded by a precious garden that has a relevant role during the Carnival and King’s Day Horse Rides.
The La Luz Castle has a square shape with three floors. Its access is done through a drawbridge and it has an external pit. From the outside you might observe three circular towers and a shelter on the northern part of the castle. At the entrance you’ll see a beautiful arch and an image of Virgen de La Luz.
Nowadays it holds the art centre and the naval museum.
